the earth
With my very first painting series The Earth, I used my research on the human heart as inspiration to represent the earth as a living, breathing organ. To my surprise, I kept going with this articulation in both narrative and image. Written at the same time as the paintings were created, my poem Raving Mad (below) also speaks to this expression.
Raving Mad
Earths rusty red crust slowly being gnawed peeling off layer by layer under this constant pressure. Stomping and beating Gouged and scratched red energy draining under incessant raining bleeding through reaching blood red core Steaming arteries pulsating burst!! Roots groping for growth, raging against injustice, frantically in a frenzy, dying a slow red death. This earth resigns itself prematurely to dying. We have laid old age upon it and anger runs red raging brilliantly flowing through artists to poets of rhymes and reason.
